Our Heritage
Martains begins long before Martains. Our story is not one of founding a brand — it is one of inheriting a way of making things.
Mid-1950s
It begins in a small Spanish workshop, decades before the name Martains existed. A family of artisans — jute, needle and thread, and the patience to do one thing extraordinarily well.
Generation to generation
What passed down through the family was never just a trade. It was a standard: if a detail can be done by hand, it must be. If it can be done better, it isn't finished.
Today
Martains was born to carry that inheritance forward. Espadrilles made entirely by hand, the traditional way — where nothing is accidental and every detail is on purpose.
The Signature
Terracotta is sun-baked clay. The rooftops, the fields, the warm dust of a Spanish summer. We chose it for the sole — the part of the shoe that touches the world — deliberately.
And like the earth it comes from, it is meant to be lived in. With every step the sole takes on its own marks, its own patina. That is not wear — that is the signature becoming yours.
